Nominations for the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which honors achievement in film and television, were announced this morning and although films "Black Panther," "If Beale Street Could Talk," and Spike Lee's "BlacKkKlansman" made the cut for Best Drama, powerhouse films such as George Tilman Jr.'s "The Hate U Give" and Steve McQueen's heist drama "Widows," which tackle powerful themes such race, stereotypes, class and gender failed to garner any nods.
"Green Book" received a nod for Best Comedy/Musical and the film also earned its star Mahershala Ali, a Best Performance nod and the stars of "BlacKkKlansman" John David Washington and "If Beale Street Could Talk," Regina King also received Best Performance, but there were no best-actress nomination for "Widows's" actress Viola Davis and newcomer Amandla Stenberg who earned rave reviews for her performance in the timely drama “The Hate U Give.”

Adam McKay's Dick Cheney biopic "Vice" topped all contenders with six nominations, including Best Picture, comedy and will compete alongside "The Favourite," ''Green Book," ''Mary Poppins Returns" and "Crazy Rich Asians," while "A Star Is Born" and ''Bohemian Rhapsody" will compete in the Best picture, drama alongside "Black Panther," "If Beale Street Could Talk," and Spike Lee's "BlacKkKlansman."
The nominations for the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards which will air live Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC were announced at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and were presented by Terry Crews, Danai Gurira, Leslie Mann and Christian Slater.
