WILL SMITH WORKING ON 'HANCOCK 2'
August

Columbia has hired screenwriters Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to pen the sequel to Will Smith's 2008 superhero movie "Hancock," which grossed $624 million worldwide last year. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the plot for "Hancock 2" is being kept under wraps, though the writers will work with Smith and director Peter Berg to build on the world hinted at in the first movie. The original starred Smith as a drunken, irresponsible superhero who undergoes an image makeover by a public relations man. It later is revealed that the hero is part of a line of immortal beings who have been around for more than 3,000 years and begin to lose their powers when in proximity to fellow immortals.



TERRENCE HOWARD IN A 'LITTLE MURDER'
August

Terrence Howard has landed a spot in the Lake Bell and Josh Lucas-led indie thriller "Little Murder," reports Variety. The film is set in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and centers on a disgraced detective (Lucas) who gets an unexpected shot at redemption when the ghost of a beautiful cellist (Bell) solicits his help in finding her killer. Peter "Gaga" Antonijevic is directing. Production is set to begin in New Orleans.



ANTHONY MACKIE JOINS 'BUREAU'
August

Anthony Mackie ("The Hurt Locker") has joined the cast of Universal's sci-fi thriller "The Adjustment Bureau," opposite Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, reports Variety. Written and directed by George Nolfi and adapted from Philip K. Dick's short story, the plot centers on a smooth-talking congressman whose political future is thrown in doubt by the arrival of a mysterious ballerina in his life. Filming will begin soon in New York.



GABRIELLE UNION TO PRODUCE/STAR 'THE VOW'
August

Gabrielle Union will co-star and executive produce the upcoming Lifetime movie "The Vow," based on the 2005 novel by Denene Millner, Angela Burt-Murray and Mitzi Miller. The story follows three women who attend a wedding and all decide to be engaged within the next year.



HALLE BERRY IN TALKS FOR "SURROGATE"
June

Halle Berry is in talks to star in "The Surrogate" for 20th Century Fox. Based on the 2004 book by Kathryn Mackel, the story centers on a couple desperate to have a child who find themselves in an unbearable position when they find out the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is insane. Berry is interested in the part and Fox is keen to have her do it, though official dealmaking has yet to begin. Berry would play the wife who wants to have the child.
