Cast:
Allen Payne, Jada Pinkett, Forest Whitaker
Rating:
     R
Bottom Line:
     **1/2

Coverage:

Two brothers, Jason (Allen Payne) and Joshua (Bokeem Woodbine), emotionally scared by a dark family secret, become opposites ( Jason is hard-working and Joshua sells drugs.) while growing up in inner-city Houston.
While Jason and Joshua are both wary of emotional attachments, because Vietnam robbed them of their father, one day hard working Jason meets Lyric (Jade Pinkett), a beautiful young woman who teaches him to dream beyond the inner-city's horizon in search for a better life. But Jason feels guilty leaving his mother and Joshua who's emotionally attached to him.
Jason's Lyric is a well made story, evoking emotion when it's suppose to, however, the storyline is uneven and doesn't come together until the third act. What the movie needed was the slick and tight direction that dominated Boyz 'N The Hood  and Menace II Society.
